A special celebration for the winners of this year’s PFLAG Tucson Scholarship Program will take place at our regularly scheduled meeting, Wednesday, May 3rd, from 7-8:30pm. Eight deserving recipients will each be awarded $1,000 scholarships towards their higher education. This annual event has proven to be a welcome boost for so many aspiring college students over several years. Were it not for the financial assistance provided from individual donors and the continuing generosity of the Alliance Fund, such a program for our GLBTQ and Allied youth would not be possible. Gratitude of immense proportions is due our dedicated supporters. If we could honor every deserving applicant with a scholarship, that would be our greatest achievement. What all the applicants need to know is the selection committee works hard to choose winners in a fair and impartial manner, but are limited to the number of scholarships they can give out. You can be sure, a lot of heart goes into this important task.
Because this PFLAG gathering will largely be dedicated to our Scholarship winners, we will have less time for our support portion of the meeting. However, we encourage people to attend if an in-person connection is desired that evening. Also, our PFLAG Tucson Hot Line is available should you have concerns/questions at any time (520-360-3795). Calls will be answered directly as they come in, or you may leave a message for us to call you back.
Our current PFLAG Tucson President, Blain Tucker, along with our Board members and all others who lend their on-going support, do hope you will share this exciting evening with us on May 3rd. This will be PFLAG Tucson’s 15th year in providing scholarships for our GLBTQ young adults with college ambitions!
