2020 Scholarship Information and Application Process

This April, Arizona students experienced a major win with the repeal of the state’s antiquated ban on LGBTQ-inclusive education. Unfortunately, TUSD’s plans to incorporate LGBTQ-inclusive curriculum are being undermined by anti-LGBTQ groups who have shown up in large numbers to protest inclusive policies. We urge you to show up on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10 for LGBTQ students at TUSD’s FINAL MEETING to consider LGBTQ-inclusive curriculum – to ensure all students will have an opportunity to receive a science-based, age-appropriate education that prepares them for health and success.

In lieu of rent for our meeting space, the Ward VI City Council Office would appreciate donations (either as goods or a check) to the Community Food Bank (cans of food, dried goods), the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (toiletries of all kinds), or the Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona (packs of diapers for adults or children). The Ward VI office has three bins in its entry way to collect these. Thank you for your generous contributions!

PFLAG Tucson celebrates all the students who graduated this year! They have done so through extreme and unprecedented circumstances, it is nothing less than remarkable.

Spring 2020 PFLAG Tucson and The Alliance Fund were proud to award 8 amazing students scholarship for the 2020-2021 academic year. These $1,000.00 scholarships are made possible through our partnership with The Alliance Fund LGBTQ+, a fund of the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, and the generous donations that came in from YOU (Thank you!).

The PFLAG/Alliance Fund scholarship celebration took place at our regularly scheduled support meeting Wednesday, May 1, 2019 from 7-8:30pm. Seven deserving LGBTQ students were awarded a $1,000 scholarship toward their higher education for Fall 2019. As in recent years, this year’s scholarships were given in memory of Norman “Mick” Meader and his partner, Richard Holmes. Mick was our devoted PFLAG secretary for many, many years. We congratulate all those who were awarded these scholarships and thank our members and friends for their contributions that made this possible.

PFLAG will provide soft drinks, meat entrees, potatoes and gravy. Everyone else please bring vegetables, salads, vegan and vegetarian dishes. (Remember to label your dishes for gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, and nuts.)
