PFLAG promotes the health and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and friends through:
SUPPORT for parents, families, straight/gay spouses and LGBTQ people. In the confidential setting of our monthly meetings, we provide each person – at any stage of their journey – the chance to share experiences and issues in a safe, supportive, friendly environment. We also show public support for the LGBTQ community and our LGBTQ loved ones.
In addition to monthly meetings, PFLAG Tucson support activities include marching in the annual Gay Pride Parade, staffing a booth at Pride in the Desert, and hosting recognition dinners each year celebrating LGBTQ youth, seniors, and couples.
EDUCATION, both individually and in our community. We promote respect and understanding of LGBTQ relationships as healthy, normal, and loving, and of LGBTQ people as responsible, productive, and caring human beings.
PFLAG Tucson education activities include annual fundraising and scholarships to LGBTQ youth and adults whose college educations can further LGBT equality. Also, speaker panels address college classes and organization meetings.
ADVOCACY in a grassroots fashion for equal rights – not special rights – for our relatives and friends. We fought against a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage in Arizona and have advocated for domestic partner benefits for state employees. We speak out against unequal treatment of LGBTQ people and hate crimes against them.
PFLAG provides the opportunity to dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity, and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.
